General FAQ's

Our aim is to provide our customers with the best in entertainment, at affordable prices. To make our service cost effective, we bundle DStv channels into packages so we can spread the costs across these.

If we could offer customisable packages, your choice might not prove very popular so the expense would be spread across far fewer customers, thereby making it far more expensive.

We understand that some customers find repeats frustrating. The main reason programmes are repeated is to give people a chance to see something they might have missed. Or to record on their PVRs a show they might have missed.

Different channels have different levels of repeats – a kids channel will repeat far more shows than a channel like M-Net. Different channels also cater for our customers on the different DStv packages – Premium customers will see content that they had access to a few months ago, repeated later on channels that are open to customers on other packages like DStv Compact.

Some channels also have programming block of six or eight hours. This means that the same block of programmes will repeat either four (for six hour blocks) or three (for eight hour blocks) times during the course of a day.

There is also a limit on how much new content is produced every year. A single channel broadcasting 24 hours a day needs 8760 hours of content a year. In comparison, Hollywood only makes about 600 new English-language movies every year, which equates to only about 1200 hours of movies. This means that there will always be older content that plays.

Having said that, there is a lot of new content available on a weekly basis – there are never-before-seen shows and movies that premiere every week. As this is spread across many channels (and customers tend to stick to their few favourite channels), we highly recommend to our customers to use the various tools we’ve made available to find out what is on.

Your decoder has an 8 day TV Guide (press TV GUIDE) and extensive search options (press SEARCH), including Movies A-Z, Live Sport and even a word search.

Common Error Codes

Different error codes pop up due to various reasons. Here is a full list of all DStv error codes that you should be aware of and how to clear them. If these fixes do not work for you, please contact 2513201 or 4224145.

When this occurs, it means that your account is suspended because you have not paid for that channel or it is unavailable where you are.

How do I fix E16-4 error on DStv? If you have not paid, then settle your payment. You can press Menu and then select 4 to look at your Mail Messages where you will get a payment notification. In case your account is not suspended for delayed payments, press My Account to clear this error code.

This code can arise in either one of two situations. One of them is if you are installing DStv for the first time or if you have renewed your subscription after a lengthy absence. It means that your Smartcard is confirming your subscription status.

How do I clear E-30 error on DStv? Simply wait while your subscription is undergoing verification. In normal cases, this error should disappear after 2 minutes, but if it does not, contact the DSTV Contact Center on telephone: 2513201 or 4224145.

Means the service is scrambled and access has been stopped. This problem can arise if the decoder has been disconnected from its feed satellite for a lengthy period or it is disconnected from power for a long while. It also occurs when an incorrect Smartcard is inserted, or when the correct Smartcard is inserted incorrectly or its contacts are dusty. Additionally, this may happen when there is a technical problem on the DStv side.

How do I clear E-18 error on DStv?

  • Just connect whatever has been disconnected, wait for fifteen minutes and thereafter the connection should resume.
  • You may also try to re-insert the correct Smartcard, arrow facing the decoder and the chip facing downwards and then reboot (restart) the decoder. Make sure the Smartcard connectors are clean.

What does this mean? You will get this error due to issues with signal or perhaps a fault in the satellite communication. If your DStv decoder frequently or permanently loses signal or you need to clear DStv error code E-48-32, you should call our DStv Contact Centre on telephone: 2513201 or 4224145 for our staff to send a technician to your premises. Sometimes, no signal on DStv may arise due to bad weather on the DStv transmission uplink site in other parts of the world, which means you should wait for it to clear shortly.

When this occurs, it indicates that you do not have the permission to view the channel, or your account is suspended. Therefore, this code means that either that channel is not in your area, or you have not paid.
